Hello everyone, yearbooks are ready for pick up, and we have extra copies if you didn’t pre-order yours. You can pick up your book this Saturday, January 30 or Sunday, January 31, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the following location (a residence):

LBYSO Spring Soccer Program 2010

LBYSO will be taking a break from running it’s own Spring soccer program this season.

LBYSO will still be hosting individual Spring Select (all-star) and Spring Rec teams, but they will be formed on a team by team basis and will be participating in JUSA’s Spring program instead of our own. Teams will play home games at Heartwell Park and away games will be played in Orange County for the most part where JUSA is based.

JUSA’s season usually starts around 3/14 and ends on 5/16.

Individual coaches that wish to coach a Spring Select or Spring Rec team must fill out and submit the coaching application below.

LBYSO will be finalizing the selected coaches no later than the end of January. Please submit your application ASAP.

Referee Clinic

So you want to be a Referee??

Referee Clinic
Date: January 30th & 31th
Location: Cabrillo High School - 2001 Santa Fe Ave Long Beach, CA
Time: 8AM to 5PM both days
Cost: $65

Completion of the clinic will earn you an ‘R-8′ certification. Those that possess this R-8 certification will be qualified to referee games at all age levels within our league. You will also be eligible to join a referee organization and be paid to referee games in the future. The clinic is open to anyone who is 12yrs or older.

As an added incentives:

All those that referee 10 games this season as a volunteer will be able to have one child in the family register for free for the Fall 2010-11 season.

If 15 games are refereed as a volunteer all children in the immediate family are free for Fall 2010-11 season.

After you referee 10 games for LBYSO as a volunteer, you can choose to be paid for the remaining games that you do.

Equipment

Shirt and Shorts will be given to referees while the league still has a supply.

The socks, flags, whistle and data book will have to be purchased by the referee on their own.

Socks: $10
Flags: $8 - $18
Whistles: $3 - $8
Data book: $5
Watches (digital): $25

So the total is anywhere form $26 - $66 depending on what you already have.

FC Long Beach Winter Academy - January 2010

FC Long Beach announces the start of a 10-week winter academy designed to provide the best soccer opportunities to young players in our community. The FC Long Beach Academy will focus on player development for recreation players from LBYSO ages 5-12. FC Long Beach Academy will provide USSF Nationally-licensed club trainers to work with youth players once a week for a 10-week period. A strict trainer to player ratio is enforced to enhance instruction and attention to our young participants. Winter academy starts January 8, 2010. For more information, visit www.fclongbeach.com

The Galaxy Clinic and Game Versus the Red Bulls was a BLAST!

The Galaxy Clinic that was held on April 28th was a great success. Three Galaxy players, Todd Dunivant, Donovan Ricketts and Tony Sanneh were present to participate in soccer drills and sign autograhs. TONS of LBYSO members were in attendance from all levels including Spring Rec, Fall Rec, Spring Select, Signature and Club. Each participant received 2 Galaxy Tickets for the May 2 game and a Galaxy Soccer Ball.

A great time was had by all at the May 2nd Galaxy game versus the Red Bulls as well. The Galaxy won!! which was great, but especially gratifying was the fact that 12 lucky LBYSO players who attended the Galaxy clinic April 28 came up BIG winners in the raffle to be BALL KIDS at that game. Alyssa Haack and her friend JJ Ayon shared this photo moment.

A big thank you to Gary Gomez and the entire Galaxy organization for making the clinic and the game such a success. It was especially nice of Landon Donovan to take the time after the game to talk and autograph shirts.
